What Is Therapy, and What Kinds Does Archway Offer?
Therapy, or psychotherapy, is structured, confidential work with a licensed clinician to change the patterns of thinking, feeling and relating that are keeping you stuck. At Archway that work is done by LSCSWs, LCPCs, LPCs, LCMFTs and an LMLP, each trained in specific evidence-based approaches:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, depression and unhelpful thought loops
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and self-harm
- EMDR for trauma and PTSD
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for values-based change
- Gottman Method and attachment-focused work for couples
- Play therapy and family therapy for children and adolescents
Our clinicians treat anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, grief, OCD, body image, addiction and relationship difficulties.
What to Expect at Your First Therapy Session
Before your first visit you complete intake paperwork so the session is spent talking, not filling out forms. Your first 55-minute session is an assessment: your therapist asks what brought you in, what you have tried, your history and what you want to be different. Together you set two or three concrete goals.
Most clients meet weekly at first, then every other week as things improve. In-person sessions are in our quiet office off W Valley Parkway; virtual sessions use a secure video link that works on a phone or laptop. If a therapist is not the right fit after a session or two, tell us and we will move you to another clinician in the practice, which is one advantage of a group practice over a solo therapist.

Who Can Benefit From Therapy in Olathe?
You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to start. Archway works with:
- Children and teens dealing with school anxiety, big emotions, bullying, divorce at home or social struggles, with therapists who use play and age-appropriate CBT.
- Adults with anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, ADHD, grief or life transitions.
- Couples working on communication, trust, intimacy or deciding whether to stay together.
- Families who want to repair conflict or support a member through a hard season.
We also provide therapy alongside medication management and Spravato from our psychiatric nurse practitioners, so clients who need both can get both in one place.
The Benefits of Therapy
Decades of research show that evidence-based psychotherapy reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression as effectively as medication for many people, with gains that last after sessions end because you leave with skills, not just relief. Clients often describe sleeping better, arguing less at home, saying no without guilt, and feeling like themselves again.
Therapy also catches what a 15-minute medical visit cannot. A trained clinician who sees you weekly notices patterns, tracks progress, and adjusts the approach when something is not working.

Therapy FAQs
How do I find the right therapist at Archway?
Call or text (913) 494-8550 or book online and tell us what you are dealing with, your insurance and whether you prefer in-person or virtual. Our team matches you with a clinician who specializes in your concern, and you can switch therapists within the practice if the fit is not right.
Does Archway offer online therapy?
Yes. Every therapist offers secure video sessions for clients anywhere in Kansas, and most also see clients in person at our Olathe office.
How long does therapy take?
Many clients see meaningful change in 8 to 16 weekly sessions for a focused concern like anxiety or a life transition. Deeper work on trauma or long-standing patterns takes longer. You and your therapist review progress and decide together.
Do you see children and teens?
Yes. Several Archway therapists specialize in children and adolescents, using play therapy and age-appropriate CBT, and we offer family sessions when parents want to be involved.
Can I get therapy and medication at the same practice?
Yes. Archway has two board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioners for medication management and Spravato, so therapy and prescribing are coordinated in one place.
